Journeys of the Heart

An author's journey

Dressing My Blog

rt 2008 redu (2)In visiting other blogs I’ve noticed the designs other bloggers were using.  When my friend and web designer, David, first set mine up, neither of us gave the background much thought.  I told him to keep it clean and simple, which he did.  The design worked well, but in looking at those other blogs I mentioned, I felt it was…well, bland.  Amazingly, the design he choose actually had a name—Kubrick, a fact we only discovered this past weekend while he and I were fooling around with the site.  As we investigated different settings, we discovered how to give my blog a different look by simply going to the section labeled appearance and clicking on any one of the design samples.  Who knew?  Obviously not me.  Since I was feeling brave, I chose one and clicked on it.  Suddenly my blog had an entirely new look.  I experimented with several and settled (for now) with the one you see here—one more step in my journey to achieve computer literacy.  Now when I feel a fresh look for my blog is in order, I can easily make the change.  I never could resist playing dress-ups.

Our success made us giddy, so we didn’t stop there.  We moved on to organizing my blogs into categories.  Choosing to categorize your blog entries makes them more accessible to interested readers who may be looking for information on their favorite topics.  It’s a small change that might help drive more traffic to your blog.  David and I are now investigating how to set up the RSS feed which is supposed to be another tool to increasing blog traffic.  Isn’t technology fun?

I’d love to hear your opinion on the new design, so please leave a comment.

  5. Hi Kathleen! My first time visiting you! I heard about your book and checking out your site and all. I so love historicals! Love what you did with your blog! I use mostly my Blogspot (http://caffeys-reads.blogspot.com) since I started there but realized some readers and authors used WordPress and LiveJournal, so I made an account but don’t have anything up for my background and I love this gray and peach theme you have! Nice and professional looking too but pretty with the pastels!
